Sash-Jointing and Sand-Papering Machine.
With Sash-Relishing and Beveling Attachments.
This machine is intended to plane off the meeting rail of both the upperand lower sash, cutting off the projecting ends of the stiles and muntin tenons, and finishing them perfectly at the same time by sand-papering. The sash-holdingtable is moved in planed ways upon each side, always insuring a correct line.
The various parts of this machine, as described, can be furnished whendesired, making a complete machine for each of the separate operations, blind-jointing, rabbeting, and beading; sash-meeting, rail-jointing, and sand-papering;or sash-meeting, rail-jointing, sand-papering, and beveling; sash stile cord boringand grooving, and sash-relishing.
The sash is held on the table by the operator, the meeting rail being placedagainst stops, which regulate the thickness to be cut as it passes the cutter-head.The vertical cutting head is placed close to the sand-papering disc. Both are drivenfrom the countershaft. There can be placed on the machine an extra head forbeveling the meeting rail after the sash is put together.
When desired, a table is attached to the end next to the countershaft, as shownin the cut, with boring and sawing arbor, to relish sash; or by changing saw forgrooving bits and providing a proper boring bit, it will plow and bore the stilesfor the sash-cord either straight or at an angle. The plowing can be continuedinto the hole, dispensing with the end-boring.
The upright head, which joints the meeting rail, may be arranged as a rab-beting head, and a beading head placed on the spindle which carries the sand-paper disc. Arranged in this way, with proper fences and springs, blind-jointing,rabbeting, and beading can be done in the most expeditious manner.
The tight and loose pulleys are 8"x4)<<", and should make 800 revolutions.
