With Flexible Arms, Adjustable Disk, Exhaust Fan, etc.
This machine is vised to great advantage in carpenter shops for finishingdoors, blinds, sash, and in other manufactories where there are large surfaces tobe finished. Its construction with elbow joints makes it flexible in any direction, and it is therefore thoroughly fitted for finishing large frames, or surfaces oflarge area, its capacity being 8' 6"x4', the head swinging 6' 6" from the center.
The work is performed by a revolving sand-paper cylinder of disk form, whichis attached to a head-stock, and moved by the operator over the work. It producesa perfectly flat and smooth surface without tearing or breaking the corners. The xflexible arms are attached to a column, which can be placed in any desired positionin a factory, the tight and loose pulleys being arranged to receive the belt directlyfrom the line-shaft.
The table accompanying the machine has a fixed top. The adjustment fordifferent thicknesses of work is obtained by the movable end of the arm beingraised and lowered by a hand-wheel and screw. An exhaust fan is connected tothe column of the machine and driven from the countershaft. It removes thedust from the svirface of the work, keeping it clean.
The tight and loose pulleys on the countershaft are 8 " x 4", and should make800 revolutions.
