VII. Luke ii. io. mt afraid, I am only
come to bring you great News.
■Only has nothing correspondent to it in theGreek, and is very impertinent here, where theTidings were of so great Consequence, being notonly great, but good and happy, and much expected*
VIII. Ltike vii. Z5. But Wisdom is justified
by all her different Followers.
The Word different is not in the Text , butwas added for an Hint, that the Followers ofWisdom or divine Revelation may innocently, differ, seeing they all agree in her Justification ,as to the main Point: But this is the Translator’sDoctrine , not the Doctrine of the Gospel.
IX. Rom. ix. 28. For in ballancing the Jc-
count , the Lord will leave a [mall Re*mainder upon the Land.
The Greek says only, Lhe Lord will make ashort Reckoning upon the Earth.
X. Rom. xiv. 6 . And he that forbeareth to
eat - givesh God Thanks for the rest.
The last Words are added to the Text, by wayof Exposition. But this Explication is very im-probable, and makes obscure Sense, Grotius supplies us with a better Meaning, viz. That hewho forbears to eat, thanks God for his Absti-nence.
