Tw«r3 So that Jesus Christ is here called
the Great God. But the new Interpreter givesus a different Version thus. the glorious Appear-ance of the Supreme God and of our SaviourJesus Christ . But First, ’Bmtpav&z is an Expressi-on never applied to the Father , (though Grotius affirms it without any Proof,) but only to theglorious and last Coming of the Son. Secondly,There is no Article before 2 wtS ip©,, as there wouldhave been if the Saviour had been a differentPerson from the Supreme God , and therefore theyare both the same. Grotius indeed on this Occa-sion tells us, that the Article is oft omitted bySt. ‘Fans where it regularly should be expressed. But he neither does nor can produce one Instanceof such Omission, where it endangers the con-founding of two distinct Fersons. So that tit. i. 4.is no Exception to us, because 7rxTeps being add-ed to prevents all possible Mistake, tho’ theArticle be omitted. But in the Passage beforeus the Article is necessary to the Sense of the newVersion, and therefore would certainly have beeninserted, if any such Sense had been intended.
