Kufler, that this Verse is wanting in some Greekand Latin MSS. But why did he not tell us,from the fame learned Hands, that TertulliansCopy, within one Age after St. Johns Gospel waspublished, has this Passage. To which he mighthave added, that it is found in innumerable GreekMSS, in Jerom's Vulgar, and in all the EajiernVer lions, particularly in the true old Syriac . Buthis Spite at the Miracle recorded in this Verse , heldhis Hand. To which malignant Principle we mustalso impute his odd Version of the Place, and hisshutting up the Englijh within a Parenthesis, as aninterpolated Paragraph.

The famous Pasiage of Romans ix. 5. 0 uv Smsrdvjeau Sec- dGxsyflcs x. r. x. has not wholly escapedthe Malice of our Author. For in a Note, at theEnd of this Epistle, to which the Reader is referredfrom the Text itself, he fays thus: " Some of the" Learned have thought, that 0 uv should be trans-" posed to av c, in Correspondence to the prece-

According to which Reading, the Sense would be, the A- doption, &c. was theirs, the Patriarchs were theirs, Christ was descended from their Progeni-" tors, and God was theirs: Which is, adds he, an ingenious Emendation, and would easily be admitted, if it could be authorized by any MSS."Answ. This Pastage, I verily believe, would nothave been thought to need Emendation, if thepresent Reading had not given the Name of Su-preme God to the Son. This is a Mill-stone aboutthe Neck of ArianiJm , which the Friends of thatHeresy would fain discharge it from. But in vain.
