The CONCLUSION.

U PON the whole we find, that in Spite ofall the Falsehoods, Misrepresentations andConcealments of our Critical Hisorian, Tra-dition runs chiefly .in Favour of the Revelations. The Fathers are valid Witnestes to the Genuine-ness of that Book , and they speak to the Purpose. If Antiquity be a Recommendation in such Cases,we have the remotesl Antiquity entirely on ourSide. If Learning and Disnteresedness be Quali-fications, we have Clemens Alexandrinus , Origenand Jerome, incomparably the greatest Men inEcclesiaflical History, deposing for us, withoutPaJJion and against Prejudices. For the greatStrength of the Millenarian Doctrine, to whichthey were all averse, lay in the Revelations. IfPiety and the firmest Adherence to Fruth be Cir-cumstances that make Witnesses credible, we haveMartyrs and Confes'ors steadily declaring for us.If Numbers strengthen a Testimony, we have inthis respect also infinitely the Advantage over ourAdversaries. For the Eajlern Christians havebeen generally with us, the Western always.Lastly if positive Evidence be preferable tothat which is negative or doubtful, the Odds isgreatly on the Side of the Revelations. For whilstthe Generality depose for it, as genuine, only oneor two call it Apocryphal, and the rest are dubiousin the Matter.
