ForDutch personal names the spelling of the Bio-graphisch Woordenboek der Nederlanden{ Haarlem,1852, 21 vols.) has been taken as the standard.The spelling of Danish personal names has beenmade to accord with that of the Dansk BiograftskLexikon , by C. F. Bricka (Copenhagen, only 9 vols.published as yet). For Swedish personal namesthe guide has been Biograftskt Lexikon dfver Namn-kunnige Svenske Man (Stockholm, 1874, 23 vols.and 9 supplementary vols.). Where it has seemednecessary the spelling of the Dictionary of NationalBiography has been followed in the case of thenames of British subjects mentioned in the MS.
