tain Baker, and the Samson, Captain Deane, tokeep different courses up the Baltic, in order tocountermand the store-ships then expected. NearDanzig they met the Slutelburg, Captain Edwards;the Moscow, Captain Besemacher ; and the Victory,Captain Cramer, made a store-ship, with eight othervessels laden with stores and clothing for the army.These ships turned back, and soon after the Russianfleet under the command of the two Commodoresreturned from Copenhagen, the Tsar travelling byland into Holland. The Egudel, wanting somerepairs, was obliged to stay at Copenhagen. CaptainBredale obtained leave of the Tsar to cruise in thesnow Princess in the North Sea ; its thought, uponprivate intelligence of some Swedish ships tradingunder foreign colours. One snow was ordered towinter at Lubeck, to be subsisted ont of the contri-butions of Mecklenburg; and another at Danzig ;the Tsar beginning about this time to form hispretensions on that city. The fourth, the Lesela,Captain Muconoff, was cast away upon Steffenshof,otherwise intended to winter at Rostock. ThePrincess was also lost on the coast of Jutland, theofficers and most of the men saved ; Bredale, thusdisappointed, followed the Tsar to Holland and gotan order to return to Copenhagen, and commandedthe Egudel in pursuit of his project in the spring.Captain Vandergun, the former commander, upon adifference with the Ambassador, Prince Dolgoruki , 1being destitute of a supply other ways, was obligedto dispose of some things belonging to the ship tobuy bread for his people. This represented in anill light to the Tsar by those who wanted hiscommand, Bredale received orders to take him in
