fleet under the Admiralty was, however, retained. Thenaval forces of Sweden were thus divided into three bodiesthe war-fleet, the galley-fleet, and the armys fleet. In1 777 the galley-fleet disappeared as a separate organisationand was united with the armys fleet. The latter someyears later was put under the naval department, thoughretaining much of its distinctive character. In 1803 it wasfinally made an integral part of the ordinary fleet. Changesof status and administration throughout three-quarters of acentury did not materially affect the composition of thatpart of the Swedish naval force to which small craftbelonged. Vessels and boats propelled by oars were usedtill a recent period, and even galleys were built as late as1788.
