an openwork stem, composed of a figure of eight, to which are attached twosmall lions. On the howl are etched ornaments, consisting of three hunchesof fruit and flowers, between which are the following devices, allusive to thecontests between Holland and Spain: 1. A lion rampant, holding a sword, andsupporting on a spear a cap of liberty. 2. An armed king driving an ass sinkingunder the weight of his loaded panniers. 3. A lion rampant, over the head ofwhich an armed figure is striving to throw a noose; behind the warrior is a crown.Presented by John Henderson, Esq. Height 5^ in.

950. Vessel, in form of a cat, in clear glass, with the body and tail diagonallyribbed; the latter forms a handle. In the centre of the back is a circular openingwith a frilled edge. This object resembles in make No. 907, and is of uncertainage and country. Length 6-| in.

951. Small Wine Glass, on a very slender stem; the conical bowl is engravedwith vine leaves; the foot large in proportion to the bowl. This glass oncebelonged to George II. Height 5 \ in.

952. A Snuff Box, of oval form, set with glass pastes, imitating gems. Theedges are surrounded with pearls, and the patterns consist of red flowers withgreen leaves on a blue ground; though the general form is European, the patternsand workmanship would seem to be oriental. Height lJj in. Length 3^ in.

953. Locket, composed of two glass pastes set back to back under glass, andmounted in gold. The medallion in front imitates a shell cameo, and representsthe portrait of a young man three quarter face to right. From a miniature in Mr.Slades possession, this seems to represent Hugh Count de Crequy-Canaples whowas born 21st July, 1702, and died at Orville, in Artois, February 2nd, 1785.On the reverse is an opaque white cameo paste, with the portrait of an' aged manwith a long beard, and a lady at his side who is resting her hand on his shoulder;at the side burch, r.a. From an engraved portrait by Bartolozzi, this seems torepresent the same Hugh Count de Crequy as an old man, and no doubt the ladyis his second wife, Mary, daughter of Edward Comerford, of Altry, county Kildare,who was born March 25th, 1738, and died in England, March 25th, 1796. 954. Oval Intaglio, in white chalcedony, set as a seal, and representing thesame Hugh Count de Crequy as an old man. It is signed burch, r.a., and beingby the same artist as the paste last described, it has been thought desirable to includeit in this Catalogue. Length in. Edward Burch, a very distinguished gemengraver and modeller, entered as a student in the Royal Academy in 1769,was elected an associate in 1770, and R.A. in 1771, being the first elected by theacademicians. He died in 1814.

955. A Saucer, of opaque red glass, of a very brilliant colour, and full ofcrystals. It is made with copper, in imitation of the antique porporino, and is a pro-duction of the imperial manufactory of St. Petersburg, under the direction of thechemist, Leopold Bonafede. From the Universal Exhibition at Paris, 1867.Diameter 5 in.
