Jaques de Vintemille, Rliodicn. 4to. Paris, 1547. The copy bound for KingEdward VI., whose arms and cyphers are on the sides, which are ornamented withstrap work in black on a brown ground in the Grolier style.

80. Claudiani Opera. 12mo. Lyons, 1551. In the original binding of redmorocco, richly tooled on the sides and back; with a coat of arms and the initialsA.B. on each side; the edges are gilt and gauffred.

87. Julii Obsequentis Prodigiorum liber. 12mo. Lyons, 1553. A finespecimen of French contemporary binding; on each side are the arms of Madruccio;the edges are gilt and gauffred.

88. Pauli fitCmylii Veronensis liistorici clarissimi de rebus gestis Francorumlibri x. 8vo. Paris, 1555. A beautiful example of the French style of the period, thesides richly ornamented with oval panels and corners of arabesque work; the edgesgilt and gauffred.

89. Della Institutione morale di M. Alessandro Piccolomini libri xii. 4to.Venice, 1560. Bound in red morocco, in the oriental style of the period, withdeeply sunk panels ; the edges gilt and gauffred.

90. II Cortegiano del Conte Baldessar Castiglione. 12mo. Lyons, 1562. Arichly ornamented and contemporary French binding, having in the centre

the monogram of the French poet, Phillippe Des Portes.

91. Der Stat Nurmberg verneiite Reformation, 1564. Folio. Frankfort onthe Main, 1566. Large paper; two vols. in one. A magnificent specimen ofGerman binding of the period. The sides and back are covered with gold tooling,and variously coloured. This copy was no doubt presented to the EmperorMaximilian II. as his arms are painted on the elegantly gauffred gilt edges, togetherwith those of Nuremberg.

92. Constitutiones editse et promulgate in Synodo Dioecesana Placentina.4to. Piacenza, 1570. A rich Italian binding in orange coloured morocco, with thearms of Pope Pius V. on the sides.

93. Poetica di Aristotele vulgarizzata et sposta per Lodovico Castelvetro.4to. Vienna, 1570. A beautiful specimen of inlaid morocco binding by Deromepere; the inside lined with purple morocco with gilt borders.

94. Officium B. Marie Virginis nuper reformatum et Pii V. Pont. Max. jussueditum. 8vo. Christ. Plantin, Antwerp, 1575. Engravings by Peter van der Borclit,Hieronymus Wierix, Peter Hiis, and Abraham de Bruin. In a vellum bindingcuriously cut into squares, through which a lining of crimson silk is seen. The edgesare gauffred.

95. Lopere dOratio poeta lirico comentate da Giov. Fabrini da Figliine.4to. Venice, 1581. A fine French binding of the time, with the arms of HenryIII. as King of France and Poland in the centre; the sides are covered with fleursde lis, and have gilt corners. This specimen is engraved in Libri, Monumentsinedits, pi. xl.

97. Joannis Camilli Zaccagni Romani Oratio prima; de laudibus LconisDecimi Pont. Maximi. 4to. Rome, 1622. In the original Italian binding,elaborately ornamented; in the centre of the panels are the arms of Cardinal Carlode Medici, to whom the book is dedicated.

98. Contemplations upon the Historical part of the Old Testament; theeighth and last volume, by I. II. Dean of Worcester (Bishop Hall). 8vo. London,1626. The dedication copy to Charles I., in fine English binding, with the Kingsarms in the centre.

99. De vita et moribus Ignatii Loiolae auctore Joanne Petro Maffeio. 8vo.Lyons, 1638. The binding is of morocco, with richly gilt sides, inscribed hoc teMUNE1IE DONAVIT CLAVDIVS TAPIN, 1640.
