find such impressions are really made, andperceived with such qualifications ; insomuchthat the soul hath little, if any cessation, atleast in some persons, from such represen-tations. A set of new objeBs is immediatelypresented to it, and that succeeded by an-other, and that still by another, with greatervariety and latitude of nature, than what itperceives by the in-let of the senses; for anew creation of things, of different species,and other natures, really beyond the licenceof the Painter or the Poet’s imagination, isnow offered to it, or forced upon it. Itmust be owned this is a strange phaenome-non, and appears to be altogether unaccount-able. But it is a real phœnomenon ; and,I think, much as I have here representedit; and certainly it must have some real cause.And it seems contrary to reason, that the
