Of these lace-trimmed boots, the favourite, Cinq-Mars, leftthree hundred pairs at his death (1(5-12). From his portrait, afterLenain, which hangs in the National Callery of Versailles, we giveone of these boots (Fig. 58), and his rich collerette or fallingcollar of Italian point (Fig. 59).

The garters, now worn like a scarf round the knee, have theends adorned with point.
