1340. The needles excellency, a new booke wherein are divers admirableworkes wrought with the needle. Newly invented and cut in copperfor the pleasure and profit for the industrious. Printed for JamesBoler, &c., 1640 108

Beneath this title is a nent engraving of three ladies in a flower garden,under the names of Wisdom, Industrie, and Kollie. Prefixed to the patternsare sundry poems in commendation of the needle, and describing the characterof the ladies who have been eminent for their skill in needlework, amongwhom are Queen Elizabeth and the Countess of Pembroke. These poemswere composed by John Taylor, the Water Poet. It appears the work hadgone through twelve impressions. From the costume of a lady and gentlemanin one of the patterns, it appears to have been originally published in thereign of James I. (Douce). From the description of the frontispiece it seemsto be copied from Sibmacher.
