In the mean time, soils might besent to some skilful persons in the capital bycountry gentlemen; who would thus be enabledto ascertain and appreciate the advantages at-tending such researches, and enlighten and en-courage their more ignorant and diffident neigh-bours. Many of them might, perhaps, them-selves feel a taste for occupations of this nature:occupations which not only fully suffice to fillup the many vacant hours and days which thesolitude of a country life must frequently leavethem, but are, moreover, sweetened by thepleasing recollection, that, of all others, theytend most directly to the general happiness ofmankind.
