vian* society, the head of which, M. VanLaar, is sole proprietor of all the adjacentcountry. He received us with great kindnessand hospitality, being intimately acquaintedwith our Utrecht companion. Zeist is arural little village, and the extensive rangeof buildings, occupied by the society, iskept in a state of the most precise neatness.Their burial ground is singular. Thegraves instead of being raised, are allunited like flower beds, and neatly raked ;with small white stones, bearing simply theinitials of the deceased, arranged along thecentre of the bed, thus giving it completelythe appearance of a garden divided by wellkept grass walks. From the top of M.Van Laars house we had a fine view ofthe country we were about to pass through.After dinner we proceeded through a deepsandy road towards Arnheim. Mr. Molaccompanied us to a village called Reysen-burgh, where there is an elegant catholicchapel, built by the road side, which heobtained us a view of, and then left us onhis return to Utrecht .
