The Hall of the Senate in the Luxem bourg palace was magnificently decorated ;but it has since suffered much, in conse-quence of all the memorials of the lateEmperor having been defaced or takenaway. All the pictures and statues whichin any way commemorate him or his ac-tions are now removed; among the resthis throne, the canopy of which howeverremains; it is a rich gilt dome, supportedby three groupes of Egyptian figures, andfestooned with crimson velvet and golddrapery. The orators, who are all placed,iu semicircular rows in the front of thethrone, do not speak from their seats, butascend an elevated rostrum opposite to thepresident. This hall is also adorned bymany statues of Roman and Grecian ora-tors. The ascent to it is by an elegantmarble staircase, which has been fitted up
