Edom, Erythra and Phoenicia, are names of the fameftgnification, the words denoting a red colour: which makes itprobable, that the Erythreans who fled from David fettled ingreat numbers in Phoenicia; that is, in all the fea-coafts of Syriafrom Egypt to Zidon ; and by calling themfelves Phoenicians inthe language of Syria, inftead of Erythreans, gave the name ofPhoenicia to all that fea-coaft, and to that only.
