Chapter eldeft fons who married young, if they be reckoned at about

IRST ' twenty and four years to a generation, will place the birth ofPolydorus upon the i8th year of David’s reign, or therea-

bout ( I3 ). And thus Cadmus might be a young man, not yet

married, when he came firft into Greece. At his firft cominghe failed to Rhodes; and thence to Samothrace, an ifland nearThrace on the north fide of Lemnos; and there married Harmo-nia, the fifter of Jafion and Dardanus (’ 4 ), which gave occafionto the Samothracian myfteries : and Polydorus might be theirfon (' 5 ), born a year or two after their coming; and his fifterEuropa might be then a young woman, in the flower of her age.Thefe generations cannot well be fliorter; and therefore Cad-mus, and his fon Polydorus, were not younger than we havereckoned them : nor can they be much longer, without makingPolydorus too old to be born in Europe, and to be the fon ofHarmonia the fifter of Jafion. Labdacus was therefore born inthe end of David’s reign ; Laius in the 2 ^th year of Solomon’s ;and Oedipus in the feventh of Rehoboam’s, or thereabout : un-lefs you had rather fay, that Polydorus was born at Zidon, beforehis father came into Europe ; but his name Polydorus is in thelanguage of Greece.

LX. Polydorus married Ny<fteis, the daughter of Nydleus anative of Greece; and dying young, left his kingdom and young.fon Labdacus under the adminiftration of Nytfteus, Then Epo-peus king of AEgialus, afterwards called Sicyon, ftole Antiope
