These 8 rounds were fired down the river as before. Thegun n° 2, and elevation 15 degrees, as usual. One partyof the young gentlemen w'as stationed at d as before, butthe other on the north side of the river at Duval’s houseat f. This last party saw only one ball plunge, and thefirst party saw four; which however proved sufficient fordetermining their ranges, because they all fell near themiddle of the river, a circumstance which we also at thegun could sometimes perceive.
The mean time of flight was about 8£ seconds, and ^hemean range 4398 feet, or 1466 yards.
