Here it is evident, from thecolumns ot differences, that thenumbers for the velocities arenot far from the regular lawwhich nature observes; indeedas nearly regular as such expe-riments can well be expected toproduce. Hence we can easilyinfer, that the velocity at themuzzle of the gun, with the 2oz charge, was alittlcabave S80,and with 8 oz about 1640. By making tire comparison, weperceive that the numbers are all a little less than the corre-sponding numbers of last year, owing partly to the greaterwindage, and perhaps partly to the powder losing of itsquality since the last year ; for it was the remains of thesame powder as was then used.

By making some small and obvious alterations in theabove numbers, sometimes adding and sometimes subtract-ing a small quantity, the velocities are easily made regular,as iu the following tabic, which may be considered as exhi-biting the correct velocities with which the pendulum wasstruck at the several annexed distances. The adjacentnumbers are also subtracted from one another, to show thevelocity lost at each distance, from the gun ; and theirannexed differences show the quantity of velocity for each20 >>1x1$ or 60 feet, with its respective velocity.—The me-dium' weight of the bails, in all the three days, being 16 ozIQ'64 dr, or 16J oz, and diameter T965 inches.
