The quantities ofpowder, when the velocities arrived at their maximum orgreatest state, were various, as might be expected, accord-ing to the lengths of the guns: the weight of powder, withthe length it extended in the bore, and the fractional part ofthe bore it occupied, are shown in the following table, of thecharges for the greatest effect.
