the illustrations (Figs. 182 and 183) these markings are con-fluent in the darker variety, and well separated in the lighterone. This cricket is alwa^^s darker in color, varying from adeep black to ivory-white with fuscous markings. Mostspecimens, however, are greenish-white, with three blackstripes on the head and pronotum, and a broad dusky linealong the center of the abdomen beneath. The wing-coversof the male are less broad in proportion to their length thanin niveus; while the ovipositor is longer and more distinctlyturned upward at the end. Both sexes are shown in Figs.180 and 181.

This is almost as common as the “Snowy Tree-cricket.”Its stridulation is a long and comparatively loud continu-ous whir often lasting several minutes.
