Pdila fre-quently gets well spontaneouay : but the reme-dies commonly used are scarification of theulcered surface, powder of umerlc sprinkledover it, and sometimes a bitter vegetable juicedropped on it.
They have among them another kind ofulcerous disease which they call tona, very dis-tinct from the two last described, childrenbeing for the most part subject to it; and it isone of those diseases which only occur onceduring a person’s life. Tie patient is firstseized with general languor and debility, at-tended with loss of appetite: in a few days aneruption appears in different parts of the body,but particularly in the corners of the mouth,axillae, groins, parts of generation, and anus 5the pustules at first are exceedingly small, butat length increase to about half an inch in dia-meter ; fungous excrescences grow out ofthem, exhibiting a granulated surface, and dis-charging a viscous fluid, which concretes roundthe edges. These pustules come also uponthe soles of the feet, and increase to a consi-derable size, giving very great pain : Mr. Ma-riner is not acquainted with the state of thepulse, &c.
