How noticeable.—Larva.
If we visit a mossy wall on a dewyor rainy morning in the first threemonths of the year, and examineclosely the surface of the moss, weshall probably observe some littleheaps of yellowish-green excrementformed by some moss-feeding larva,and in a little while we may noticesome small GelechiaAodkmg larva ofa pinkish-ground colour, with theordinary spots small and scarcelyperceptible ; this, in all probability,would be the larva of GelechiaAffinis.
How noticeable.—Imago.
In the month of June, if we visita mossy wall where we had observedat the beginning of the year indica-tions of moss-feeding larvae, it is byno means improbable that we mayobserve specimens of a dark-fuscousGelechia, of which the anterior wingshave four black spots, the first threeof which are followed by some yel-lowish-white scales, and beyondthem is a yellowish-white angulatedfascia ; this would, no doubt, be theimago of Gelechia Affinis.
La Chenille.—Comment la trouver.
Si nous visitons un mur moussulorsqu’il y a de la rosée ou qu’il pleut,un matin dans les trois premiers moisde l’année, et si nous examinons at-tentivement la surface de la mousse,nous apercevrons probablement depetits tas d’excrément d’un vert-jaunâtre, formés par quelque chenillequi se nourrit de la mousse, et ilnous faudra peu de temps pour dé-couvrir une petite chenille, qui avecl’aspect de celles du genre Gelechiaa le fond d’un rosé pâle, avec lespoints ordinaires très-petits et à peinevisibles. Selon toute probabilitécette chenille sera celle de la G.Affmis.
Le Papillon.—Comment le trouver.
Si nous visitons en Juin un mursur lequel croissent des mousses etoù nous avons observé au printempsdes traces de chenilles qui senourrissent de ces crytogames, il estassez probable que nous remarqueronsdes individus d’une Gelechia d’unbrunâtre foncé, dont les ailes anté-rieures montrent quatre taches noires,les trois premières desquelles sontsuivies de quelques écailles d’unblanc-jaunâtre, et au-delà de cestaches il y a une bande coudée d’unblanc-jaunâtre ; ce papillon doit sansdoute être rapporté à la GelechiaAffinis,
