GELECHIA AFFINIS.
[Plate V. Fig. 2.
Geographical Distribution.
Very little can yet be said aboutthe geographical distribution of thisinsect, as many of the localities here-tofore assigned to Aßnis probablybelong to the sand-hill and heath-frequenting insect. My bred speci-mens were all from larvae found onone wall at Lewisham , on which Ionce took a specimen of the perfectinsect; and I once took a specimen,in company with G/yphipteryx Equi-tella, at Bexley, flying over thatchon which stone-crop was growing;at Mickleham I took two specimensin a house.
Judging from the habitat Freygives for bis Aßnis (previously Te-gulella), and from specimens sent byhim, we are able to add Zürich tothe known localities. It also occurssparingly at Glogau .
The first description which we canattempt to apply specifically to thisinsect is that given by Douglas inthe “Transactions of the Entomo-logical Society of London,” vol. i.,N. S., of Gelechia Affinis, where thesecond joint of the palpi is describedas “ ashy ,” “the anterior wings fus-cous -black,” and the “ fascia curvedwhitish.” Stainton , in his “ InsectaBritannica,” clearly under the samename describes the sand-hill species,“ palpi ochreous,” “ anterior wingsfuscous," and instead of a fascia hesays “ two opposite whitish spots.”The Affinis of Haworth and Stephens
