GENERAL OBSERVATIONS ON THE GENUS GRAC1LARIA.

In 1847 appeared Zellers masterlymonograph of the genus in the se-cond volume of the Linnaea Ento-mologicain this two new species,Oneratella and Pavoniella, were de-scribed for the first time, the EnglishSemifascia made its first appearanceto German Entomologists under thename of Picipennella, the Simploniellaof Duponchel and Fischer v. Rosler-stamm here appears in its properplace, and Limosella obtains a tho-roughly recognizable description.Altogether he has 21 species, one ofwhich, Quadruplella, had been sincedropped as being only a form ofPhasianipennel/a; but as a set-ofF tothis, there is a description of Impe-rialella in a note. In this paper thereare notices of the larvae of Phasiani-pennella and Ononidis. In the sameyear 1847 appeared Tengstroms Bidrag till Finlands SmafjarilFauna, in which one new Gracilariais described under the name of Su-berinella ; it is there said to be alliedto Populetorum, and I learned latelyin a letter from Dr. Nylander thatTengstrom is now firmly of opinionthat his Suberinella is only a varietyof Populetorum, which indeed, likeothers of the genus ( Elongella andSemifascia for instance), varies con-siderably, but which has never beentaken in sufficient plenty to allow ofthe exhibition of an extensive series.Under the name of Elachista Moni-liella Tengstrom gives a good de-scription of Gracilaria Ononidis. Inthe Zoologist for 1848, Omissellawas first described by Stainton, andthe unfortunate Ononidis was againdescribed as a new species under thename of Argcntipunctella. In the Entomologische Zeitung for 1850,
