No. 9. GRACILARIA KOLLARIELLA.Plate III. Fig. 3.
How noticeable—Larva.
If, at the end of June and be-ginning of October, we examine theleaves of the broom, in localitieswhere this species occurs, we mayobserve some which are bleachedand discoloured, the whole of theparenchyma being eaten out; if onopening one of these discolouredleaves we find a pale amber larvawith no markings, we may reason-ably assume that we have before usthe larva of Gracil. Ko/lariella.
How noticeable.—Imago.
If, in the localities where thisinsect occurs, we use the sweeping-net amongst broom bushes in themonth of May or at the end of July,we may probably obtain specimensof a prettily marked blackish-brownand white Gracilaria', and if thewhite dorsal streak is not indentedtowards the fold, we may, withoutmuch hesitation, pronounce the spe-cimens to be G. Kollariella.
Mode of Life.
The larva mines the leaves of thebroom (Spartium Scoparium ). Themined leaves remain flat, but becomeyellowish-grey from the abstractionof the parenchyma. I believe thelarva can move from one leaf to
