to time recognize signs of change in the moon’s face.So far from rejecting these as incredible, we shouldconsider the wonder rather to he that they are notmore commonly seen, and more striking in theirnature. Assuredly there is nothing which should leadour telescopists to turn from the study of the moon, asthough it were hopeless to seek for signs of changeon a surface so desolate. Rather they should increasethe care with which they pursue their observations, holding confidently the assurance that there are signsof change to be detected, and that in all probabilitythe recognition of such change may throw an instruc-tive light on the moon’s present condition, past history, and probable future.
