under this section, as the trustees of the township think just, tobe paid out of the funds of the said district.

25. Sect. XXVI. That the township superintendent of com-mon schools shall visit each common school in his township, atleast onc-e in each year, (a) and examine the journal or record ofthe teacher, and all other matters that he may deem important,touching the situation, discipline, mode of teaching, and improve-ment thereof; and he shall keep a journal of all such examina-tions, and of his observations thereon, which shall be open toall school officers in the district; and he shall make an estimate,as near as possible, of the amount of money required in his town-ship, in addition to what shall be furnished bythe several provis-ions of this law, if there shall be a deficiency, to provide, atleast, six months good schooling to all the white unmarried youthin the township, during the year ensuing, and shall cause publicnotice to be given, of the amount required, by posting the samein writing, on the door of every common school house in thetownship, and at the usual place of holding the elections, at leastfifteen days before the annual township election, on the firstMonday of April; and, at such election,it shall be lawful for thequalified voters to indorse on their tickets,school tax, orno school tax, and if, on counting the votes, it shall be foundthat there are more votes for school tax than against it, theresult shall be certified to the county auditor, w r ho shall assessthe amount so estimated by the township superintendent, to beassessed upon the property of such township, ( b ) which shall becollected and paid over to the treasurer of the township, in thesame manner as is provided for the amount levied in the secondsection of this act; but if there shall be found more votes fornoschool tax than for it, then no further school tax shall beassessed for that year.

26. Sect. XXVII. That the court of common pleas of eachcounty in this state, shall, at their first term after the passage ofthis act, or at any subsequent term, appoint three competentmen, to act as school examiners, who shall forthwith be notifiedof their appointment by the clerk of said court, and hold theiroffices for three years, and until their successors are appointed;and the said court shall, from time to time, fill all vacancies insaid board of examiners.

27. Sf.ct. XXVIII. That said board shall, within ten daysafter their appointment, on being notified thereof, meet andorganize by electing a chairman and clerk from their own body;they shall fix upon the time and place to hold quarterly meetingsfor the examination of all persons who wish to become teachersin their counties; and, at such regular meetings, any one of saidboard, on failure of the others to attend, shall be competent toexamine candidates, and give certificates; and the certificates sogiven shall be sufficient for any part of the county; and no per-son shall be employed as teacher in any common school, unless
