SECRETARY OF STATE.

Section

1. Where to keep his office;to takecharge of public documents.

2. To provide copies, and attend to cor-rect printing of the laws.To certifytheir correctness, and append table ofcontents.

An act prescribing the general duties of the auditor, treasurer and secretary of state.

Sections I. to XXXVIII. (a)

1. Sect. XXXIX. That the secretary of state shall keep hisoffice at the seat of government, and shall have charge of, andsafely keep, all the laws and resolutions heretofore passed by theterritorial and state legislatures, and all that shall hereafter bepassed by the legislature of this state; and such other papers anddocuments as have been, or shall hereafter be, deposited in hisoffice, in conformity with the provisions of the laws of this state.

2. Sect. XL. That the secretary shall make, or cause to bemade, accurate copies of all laws and resolutions^of the generalassembly, which shall be ordered to be printed, with necessarymarginal notes, and deliver such copies to the state printer; andshall superintend the printing thereof, carefully comparing theprinted copies with the original laws and resolutions depositedin his office, correcting all errors that may appear in such printedcopies; and.shall cause to be printed,at the end of each volumeof the laws so printed, his certificate, that the foregoing acts andresolutions are truly copied from the original rolls in his office;and shall also append a table of contents, referring to the pageon which each act commences. ( b)

3. Sect. XLI. That all commissions required by law to beissued by the governor, shall be countersigned by the secretaryof state, who shall register each commission, specifying the nameof the person commissioned, the office conferred, the date andtenure of the commission, in books to be provided and kept forthat purpose.

4. Sect. XLII. That the secretary of state shall procure, atthe expense of the state, for each organized county, where die
