PETITION FOE AID TO ERECT A CHURCH AT FISH CREEK, DUTCHESS CO.

To His Excellency John Montgomerie Esq r Cap 4 Generali and Governo 1 in Chief in and over hisMajesties Provinces of New York and New Jersey and the Territories depending thereon inAmerica and Vice Admirall of the same &c.

The Humble Petition of Peter Du Bois and Abraham Musy Elders and Abraham Blinkerhofand Hendrick Phillip Deacons of the Dutch Reformed Protestant Church of the fish Creekin Dutchess County in the Province of New York in the behalf of themselves and the Restof the members of the said Church .

Humbly Sheweth,

That the members of the said Congregacon being in daily expectation of a minister from hollandto preach the Gospel amongst them acording to the Cannons Rules and Discipline of the ReformedProtestant Churches of the united Netherlands and therefore have agreed amongst themselves to erectand build a Convenient Church for the Publick worship of God nigh the said fish creek in the Countyaforesaid but finding that the said building will be very Chargeable and therefore as in the like caseshas been Practised and is usuall in this Province they would desire the aid help and assistance of allCharitable and well disposed Christians within this Province for the Compleating of the said Building.

They therefore most humbly Pray for your Excellencys Lycence to be granted to the said Eldersand Deacons of the said Protestant Congregacon to collect gather and Receive the benevolence andfree gifts of all such Inhabitants of this Province as shall be willing to contribute somewhat towardsthe erecting aud building such Church as aforesaid for the Publick service of almighty God and thatonly for such a time as yo r Excellency will be pleased to grant the said Lycence.

And yo r Petition 1 ' 8 as in duty bound shall ever Pray &c.

PETITION AGAINST A PRETENDED LUTHERAN MINISTER.

The humble petition of Michael Christian knoll Minister and the Elders and Deacons of theLutheran Church in the City of New York ShewethUnto Your Excellency

That your Excellency in Council on the Thirtyeth Day of May Last were Graciously pleased on aformer petition presented by your petitioners to order and direct that one John Lodwick Hofgoedwho has taken upon him to be a Lutheran Minister Should not Exercise any Ministerial functionwithin this province without a Lycence first obtained from Your Excellency for that purpose, a Copyof which order Your petitioners Beelrman petterson and Wolf did on the Evening of the Same DayServe on the said John Lodwick Hofgoed and were in Great hopes a Due obedience and Regardwould have been paid to the Same but Contrary to your petitioners Expectations and in Contemptand Disobedience of Your Excellencys Order in Councill he the said John Lodwick Hofgoed Still
