trunk, and bushy head. The flowers are white, and hang in bunches oflong pendent racemes. The capsules when ripe are of a greyish brown.It flowers in the middle of summer, and retains its blossoms a month or sixweeks, but the seeds are rarely ripened in Europe. It is a native of Brazil ,

but has also been found in the United States , in the Carolinas, in marshes,

and on the banks of rivers.”
