Notwithstanding a gooddeal of musketry, and a little shelling, there wasonly one workman hit.

The whole party worked very well, especially cor-porals Cray and McEachem of the Royal Sappers andMiners.

1. 21-gun battery, repairing and revetting embra-sures and traverses ; the former had suffered muchduring the day’s firing ; three Sappers, 30 men.

2. No. 19 battery, repairing embrasures, also re-vetting same, two Sappers and 30 men ; continuingto cover with earth the roof of the new magazine,one Sapper and 10 men.

3. No. 14 battery, generally repairing embrasures ;they were in a very dilapidated condition; three Sap-pers and 50 men ; rebuilding two traverses, andrepairing the left magazine, one Sapper and 30men.

4. No. 13 battery, repairing and revetting theembrasures, two Sappers and 30 men.

5. No. 12 battery, repairing and revetting themagazine, one Sapper and 10 men.

6. No. 16 battery, thickening and heighteningparapet, and rebuilding damages done by the enemy’sfire, one Sapper and 30 men.

7. No. 17 battery, repairing and revetting two embra-sures ; the third still remains untouched; two Sappersand 30 men ; continuing to heighten and thickenparapet of the new addition on the right, by bringingearth from the rear, one Sapper and 30 men.

8. To the right of No. 17 battery the parapet wasthickened and properly revetted, so as to allow firingfrom there with safety, two Sappers and 30 men.

9. The new battery No. 21 in right communica-tion k to fourth parallel was continued, the parapetheightened and strengthened, and terrepleine raised,two Sappers and 50 men.

10. Left approach n to No. 19 battery, the gabionswhich screened the trench from the enemy’s viewwere thrown down, and a ramp formed ; after allthe guns had passed through, the gabions werereplaced, but not filled with earth; one Sapper and10 men.

11. Fifth parallel, repairing shot holes, andthickening parapets, and widening trench on extremeright. Although 50 men were originally told off forthis duty, yet, owing to the more urgent work to bedone in the different batteries, I was unable to leavehere more than 22 men and two Sappers.
