A party of 10 men were employed in No. 11 batteryrevetting the embrasures of No. 5 gun. A party of30 men were employed in the communication fromNos. 11 to 12, improving cover of trench. A partyof 10 men were employed at the cutting near thedrain of the second parallel, widening the trench.A party of 72 men were employed in the communica-tion from No. 2 battery to the right of the secondparallel; they excavated 140 yards ; 30 men wereemployed in No. 8 battery, cutting a trench in rearof and joining the two right magazines in the battery,and in extending the trench to the traverse ; 30 menwere employed in the centre communication to thefifth parallel, extending it towards the fifth parallel.The communication was continued about 10 yards.The number of gabions used on both sides of thesap, 24.
2d Relief.
A 2d relief of 12 men came in at 2 A.M., and workeduntil daylight, thickening the parapet.
These were reserved from the working party.Nothing of importance occurred during the night.
Killed, 6 rank and file. Wounded, 14 rank and file.
Day very fine. Wind W. Thermometer in shade80°.
Right Attack.
11. Carrying condemned stores to the 21-gunbattery, and collecting powder barrels, 1st and 2dreliefs, 10 men.
12. Old advance or third parallel, revetting,heightening, and thickening parapet, &c., 1st relief,36 men, 2d relief, 100 men.
13. Commencing excavation for new magazine inrear of Quarries, 2d relief, 20 men.
14. The Sappers employed generally superintendingthe working parties; the carpenters in laying andrelaying platforms, Nos. 9, 18, and 21 batteries.
15. The bridge across the harbour is very nearlycompleted. There was nothing particular observableon the part of the enemy.

In right of fifth parallel, 100 men, two Sappers,improving cover; in sixth parallel t, 100 men, eightSappers, widening trench and improving cover ; 10men, one Sapper, constructing powder magazine inrear of fourth parallel ; No. 21 battery, 25 men, twoSappers, levelling the battery and preparing forplatforms ; No. 14 battery, 25 men, eight Sappers,repairing embrasures ; No. 9 battery, 30 meil, threeSappers, repairing the embrasures, and forming a2-gun portion on the left to fire on Redan flank ;No. 18 battery, 20 men, two Sappers, repairing theparapet, and increasing its height on the right for twomortars ; new approach i up the little ravine to theRight of approach on Redan, 30 men, one Sapper ;traverse on Left approach, 10 men, one Sapper;generally employed in the trenches, carrying gabions,breadbags, &c., 46 men, three Sappers.
Remarks.
In consequence of the extreme brilliancy of themoon it was found impossible to advance the ap-proach i to the right up the little ravine.
The working party employed deepening the formerobtained excellent cover and sustained trifling loss ;in the latter the working party were completelyshelled out by the enemy at an early period.
The Russians appeared in force on the Right, anddrove in our sentries.
The fire from the Redan was very heavy and sus-tained during the whole night; grape and shell wereespecially directed against our advanced trenches, and
