The only species near to which this approaches is V.Landsboroughi; than which the filaments are much thickerand the inflated cells shorter and less marked.

Having met with it now several times, I have not a doubtof its being distinct from V. Landsboroughi.

Char. Filaments of considerable diameter, but scarcely solarge as those of the preceding species. Cells at the periodof fructification, about five or six times as long as broad.Sporangia oval, contained in inflated cells of an elongatedbut not regularly oval form, these occurring usually singlyat intervals of three or four cells, but sometimes two arejuxta-posed.

I have much pleasure in dedicating this, one of the finestspecies of the genus, to the liev. David Landsborougli, bywhom the merit of its discovery is shared equally with myself,as an expression of my warm admiration of the zeal displayedby that gentleman in the cause of natural science.

I have met with this species but sparingly myself, but havereceived excellent specimens of it in a state of reproductionfrom Mr. Landsborough, who aptly compares the form ofthe seed-bearing cells to that of the “ soldering of leadpipes.”
