M Figure to explain the Manner of drawing the Cymaife ond Ogee.

To describe the Cymaife, draw aright Line from the lower Corner of theFill t, marled a, to the upper Corner of that of the Ogee marled b; dividethis Line equally in two at c, and, on each Half make an equilateral Tri-angle 5 the Points of these Triangles, mar!(d d and e, are the Centers ofthe two Portions of a Circle, each , of which, form half the Sweep of theCymaife. To make this Sweep more curved, as is sometimes done, whenwe would give the Moulding less ProjeBure, the Lines of the Sides of theTriangle, at the InterfeElton of which is the Center, must be fhortned.

The Description of the Ogee, is much after the fame Manner ; Divide theProjeBure, given to the Ogee and its Fillet, into five or Jix Parts, take oneof these Parts for the ProjeBure, which the Ogee has beyond the Member, upon which it is set, provided it be not an Astragal, for the lower Part ofan Ogee has no ProjeBure over an Astragal 3 another Part is for the Pro-jeBure which the Fillet has beyond the Ogee at Head: from these two Pointso and i, draw a right Line, which divide into two Parts, as in the Cy-maife, and proceed in the fame Manner by two Triangles, and by the Por-tions of Circles defcrib’d from Centers on the Points of the Triangles, to drawthe Contour. The Curvature of this Member is sometimes so great, thateach n Part is almost m entire Semicircle, as is seen in the upper Ogee of theArchitrave of ConstantineV Arch.
