(c) These Galleasses being a Sort of Vesselsnow grown out of Use, it may not be amiss toinform the Reader, that they were a middle Kindbetween Gallies and GaltionSi partaking of theForm and Advantages of both. Their Prows andSterns, like those of Gallies, were provided with

large Cannon, and their Sides winged with threeBanks of Oars; But between the Banks, and like-wise between the single Oars, there were Port--holes furnished with Cannon, after the Mannerof the Gallions. This Sort of Vessels was firstused by the Vmetians in the Battle of Lepanto,and contributed not a little to the Ruin of theTurkish Fleet.
