An Account of the Taking of two Spanish Ships, loaded with Quicksilver, &c„by Captain Th'omas White, with some other Occurrences of the- Tear , 1592.

Hemade one Hundred and fix and twentyPrisoners, and found eight dead Menupon their Decks; But what Numberof Dead they had before thrown overBoard, I do not find. Captain Whitehad at first but two and forty Men and aBoy, of which two were killed, andthree wounded.

These two Prizes were loaded withfourteen Hundred Chests of Quicksilver,a Hundred Tuns of Wine, and a great, j’Quantity of Bulls or Indulgences, gilt *Miflals, or Service-books, and otherthe like spiritual Trinkets.

Or what Value these Prizes were tQ i£9 2 *the Captors, I do not find, but we havean Account, in Hackluyt, of the Dam-age the Spaniards sustained by the Lossof them, which, for the .Singularity ofit, I shall insert.

By the taking of this 'Quicksilver,

(says my Author) the King of SpaiyJost, for .every Hundred-weight of it,the like Weight of Silver, whidh was tphave been delivered to him, by the Ma-sters of the Mines in .America, amount-ing to six Hundred Thousend Pounds.

By. taking of his Indulgences, beingtwo .Millions and seventy-two Thou-sand, for .Living and Dead, .designedfor the Provinces of Nuem Hifp.am.ci,Jucatan, Guatemala, .the .Honduras,

-andethe BMilippines, ctaxed at. two Rialseach; And for eighteen Thousand more,taxed at four Ryals each, together a•Hundred -and 1 seven Thousand, seven-Hundred Pounds. In all seven :Hun-■ dred and seven Thouland, seven 1 Hun-dred Pounds.
