These fifteen Ships were undoub-tedly the Queen’s, and either all shehad in the Fleet, or Part of the seven-teen mentioned by other Authors. SirWilliam Monfon , here, as well as in hisother Relations, makes no particularMention of these smaller Ships.
Sir Arthur Gorges, in his large Ac-count of this Expedition, fays; " The" whole Fleet (which was divided in-
" to three Squadrons, the Admiral’s* 1597*" the Vice-Admiral’s, and the Rear-" Admiral’s) consisted of one Hundred" and twenty Sail, or thereabouts,
" whereof sixty were good Men of* f War, and gallant Ships, the Rest,

The States, who concurred in thisExpedition, added ten Men of War,under Myn Heer Van Duvenvord. Thewhole Fleet was divided into three Squa-drons, the first under the Command ofthe Earl of EJsex, who was, Generaland Commander in Chief, in this Expe-
dition, the second was commanded bythe Lord Thomas Howard, and the thirdby Sir Walter Raleigh ; Charles Blount,Lord Montjoy, commanded the Land-Forces, under the Earl of EJsex, SirFrancis Vere was Marshal de Camp,Sir George Carezv, Lieutenant of theOrdnance, and Sir Christopher Blount,first Colonel. With these went, likewise,the Earls of Rutland and Southampton,

(c) Tho’ the Disagreement of these two Lists,may, at first Sight, seem great, it will not appearso, if the Reader consider, that here are threeShips, with their Commanders, not mentioned inthe former; that Sir William Monfon has omit-ted the Names of the Under-Commanders ot the
Vice- and Rear-Admirals, and some others; And
that upon the General's changing his Ship, it isprobable some of the other Commanders might dothe fame.
(d) This Ship is called here the Mer Ho-nour, and I have seen it elsewhere called theHonneur de la Mer, which, not improbably, mayhave been her right Name,.
