Sir Charles WagerV Expedition to theBaltick.
Sir Charles The Squadron ordered for this Expe-witTa J Fleet dition consisted of twenty Ships of theto the Bil- Line, one Frigat, two Fire*ships, andticic * an Hospital-ship. The thirteenth ofApril, (f) Sir Charles Wager, havingreceived his last Instructions, went onBoard of the Torbay, at the More, andhoisted his Flag, he was saluted by allthe Ships lying there, and returned theirSalutes, with one and twenty Guns..About an Hour after, Sir George Wal-ton hoisted his Flag, on Board the Cum-berland, at the Mizzen-Top-maft Head,and, saluting the Admiral with nine-teen Guns, was answered with seven-teen.
Rendezvous The fourteenth, Sir Charles deliver’dand Sailing- out a .Line of Battle, and a RendezvousOrders. for Copenhagen Road, or the Dahlen,near Stockholm, together with SailingInstructions. The seventeenth, in theMorning, the Fleet weigh’d and setSail from the More; (g) The nineteenth,they took their Departure from Lowe-Jlojf Church.
The twenty-third, in the Evening,the Admiral came to an Anchor, in theRoad of Copenhagen, and sending on
Shoar to the Great Chancellour, to no- 1726*tify his Arrival, and to know when he And
might wait on the King of Denmark, withthe King’s Letter, he was appointed the ^sive and twentieth. Sir Charles had then ^opeuhageltan Audience of the King of Denmark , atFrederickds-Berg, a : Mile from Copenha-gen, was received very graciously, (h)
The six and twentieth, the Prince ThePtmceRoyal of Denmark, with several of theDanijh Nobility, dined on Board th Q Board tNAdmiral, and was saluted, at coming Admiraland going,by every Ship in the Fleet id) HeCrT wesThe second of May, the Fleet sailed at Stock-from Copenhagen, and, on the sixth,came holm;to an Anchor, at Elfenab near Stockholm.
The seventh, Mr. Pointz His Maje-sty’s Envoy Extraordinary, and Pleni-potentiary, accompanied with Mr. Jack-son, His Majesty Resident, came onBoard the Admiral. The eighth, SirCharles went up to that City, withthem, and, on the tenth, had Audienceof the King of Sweden, in the Presenceof several of the Senators, being Intro-duced by Mr. Pointz. Sir Charles de-livered a Letter from the King, HisMaster, to His Swedish Majesty, bywhom he was graciously received. (Æ)

(3) Sir Charles had then, in Company withhim, the Cumberland, Elizabeth, Edinburg,Hampton-Court, Grafton, Advice, Weymouth, Chat-
ham , Preston, Hampshire, Assistance, Pool andGriffinVir&AVyz ; And left Orders for the Nas-sau, Northumberland, Port-Mahon and PortsmouthHospital, which were yet in Chatham- River, get-ting ready for the Sea, to follow. At Noon, theyanchored at the Gunsteet, where they found theMonmouth , Bedford , Captain , Prince Frederick,Tar mouth and Plymouth , the five first from Spit-bead, and the last from the Downs.
(h) This Salutation was performed in suchManner as did Honour to the British Nation, andgave great Satisfaction to His Royal Highness.
is) Sir Charles, having delivered the King’sLetter, in Presence of the King’s Cabinet Councilhad the Honour to dine at the King’s Table, andSir George Walton , with the other Commanders,were entertained, at another Table, by the King’sOfficers ; The Court strewing a great Satisfactionat the Arrival of the Fleet.
(k) He had afterwards, together with Mr.Pointz , the Honour to dine with His Majesty, andthe Queen.
(l) The Dread of this formidable .Fleet madethe Couj-t of Rujsta suspend the fitting out of theirlarge Men of War, and only to equip some Fri-gats- And the Britiste Fleet lying at Revel pre-vented the Czarina's jFleet from Visiting theCoasts of Sweden or Denmark , which they is ailprobability would have done.
