Pole; Or by adding the Declination to qo gr. when the Dtclinatton and elevated Pole are of several denominations.latbitca.se, we have the three sides of a Spherical Triangle
given, and an Angle fought. 1
The two legs are The complement of the Latitude , and the
Su ns distance from the Pole. The base is , The complement of
the Suns Altitude : The Angle is the Hour required , which
mull be accounted from the Coast of a contrary name, to theelevated Pole.'
Accoiding then to the former general prescript,a nd this pas'ticular declaration, For the hour take the sum and differenceof the complement of'■ the Latitude , and of the Suns distancefrom the Pole, and from the top of the Square , upon one fide, count the difference , the sum on the other , to these terms apptythe t breech Then from the top of the Square also , count the com-plement of the Suns Altitude, and where it cuts the threed, thehne that cross eth it Square in the fame point (being reckoned\ from that fide whereon the difference of the legs was countedgives the hour from the Meridian or noon.
To make it plain by an Example.
In a North Latitude of 52 gr. 30 min. the Sun declining20 gr. to the North , the Altitude of the Sun being by obfet-vation 43 gr I would know the Hour of the day. The legsot this Triangle are the complements of the latitude and de-clination, that is 3; gr 30 min. and 70 gr. o min. The sisot them is 107 gr. 30 min. their difference is 22 gr. 30 nth 1 *Then from the top of the Square at D upon the side r> 0 >
1 „\ C “ >1 ’1 ??*"?“ Z2 gr. 30 min. downward to k And
on the other side of the Square from the top at B,
coun t the sum of the legs -oy gt-z o min. downward to L To
n - apply the threed. Which done from the top of thequare, again, I count tire bale 47 gr. the complement 043 gr. the altitude observed, downward also to o, and the linet at t ere meets me , I follow till it cut the threed , which ^

Jay now that nr , if it be counted from the lidewhereon the difference of the legs was counted , shall give44gr. 8 min. which turned into hours and minutes ofanhoito 1(allowing 15 gr. to an hour; and , 5 min. of a degree to oneminute of an hour) will make two hours and ^ min. ^
