From these Obfervations I State the Distances of the Planets from thcFixed Stars May 7 th at 9** ys p. m. as folJows,

Saturn from the Lyons Heart --—--10 58 yo

Jupiter front the farne ---10 5-9 oq

Jupiter from the satne---8 yy 3 5

HencethetrueLongitude of Sät. si 14 2.7 42.. Lat. 1 12. 4 6. North.

of Jupiter K> 14 x 6 57. Lat. o 56 43. North.

Diflerencc of Longitude-——x 4. Lat. o 16 3.

The Diflerence of Latitudes something exceeds the Distance meafirred witlithe Micrometer, by reason that the Wind then Ihaking the Sextant permit-ted ns not to be so exact as usually, but the Disterence, being lese thun halfa Minute, I esteem inconsiderable.

The Diurnal Motion of Jupiter from Saturn was now 3' 1y 7 . it holdstherefore as 3 1 1 y'( ( one days Motion, ) is to one Day or 2.4 Hours ; so

x' 4 // . (the Distance of Jupiter from the 6 with Saturn j to 8 Hours, the

Internst betwixt the Oblervation and following ConjunBion, which was there-fore 17h afrer Noon, or according to the vulgär reckoning, May 8. at 5 aClock in thc Morning. At which time the true Place of the Plancts is 5114 0 2.8T, the Disterence of their Latitudes, 1 y' 40". Saturn being somuchmore Northerly than Jupiter.

In all, best efteemed, Aflronomical Tables extant, the Mean Motions of the-P lanct Saturn are too Swift, of Jupiter too Slow considerably: Hence U cametopasi that they madethe DireB ConjunBions some days Later, the Retrogradeearlier than they were found by Oblervation.
