At 4 h 2i'f p.m. the height of the Comes was about- 5 0 *, therefore theDistance of the Head of the Comet from Algol corrected by refraction, 8° 19t.
from Mirach . 19 37
And admitting with Hevelius the Place of Mirach now in T. 21 0 40*34". with North Latitude 25° s/. its Distance from Algol will be 23° 42'40T and the Place of the Head of the Comet in ^. 14 0 48^, with NorthLatitude 17 0 8*.
At 3 h 28'. I State the correct Distance of the Comet’t Head from Capella3i°oo r ;from Alamech 11 0 40'; and therefore its true Plac« in L. 14 0 50^,with North Latitude 17 ° 6 f : agreeing very well with the Place derivedfrom the former Distances from two other and different Stars.
The Tail was not, it feems, directly Opposite to the Sun : for the SansPlace was now L. 13 0 ; but the Comet being in 14 0 47L of the fame Sign y
that is i° 40', in the Conscquence of the Su», the T dii ought, if it hadbeen exactly opposite to the Sun, to have lain in Consequence of the Head 3but the Kjtce pt Cajfiopeia is now in ^. 13^ 24/. in Antecedence of theComet, whose Tail lay not therefore. in Consequence, but in Antecedence ofthe Line pasiing through its Head and the Sun, at about an Angle of io°,
Next Night, being that foliowing the 23 of April, about % of an Houraster two, its Tail appeared much {horter than last Morning : At 2 h yj». itsHead was from Mirach 2i° 9*. Hence and trom a Course of Gbservation ofit sent me by an ingenious Frierrd, 1 found its Motion was Direct, and itsLatitude Decreasing.
