LEEDS AND LIVERPOOL CANAL, TO VARY.
Particulars of an AB of Parliament to enable the Proprietors ofthe Leeds and Liverpool Canal to complete the fane, and tovary the Line thereof, and for making a Branch to IghtonHill Park. 34 Geo III. Ch. 94.
THE variation allowed by this Act was {poken of in thesecond edition of our work, in the account of the Leeds andLiverpool Canal, page 254; what was there anticipated asprobable, is now confirmed by law, and will enable the pro-prietors to pursue with vigour a scheme which has been longin agitation; in which an immense sum of money is embarked, and which certainly is fraught with many substantial benefitsto the trade and commerce of the northern counties. Muchopposition has been made to this deviation as too much in-terfering with similar concerns: these objections however haveat last been obviated or over-ruled, so that the line most to bedesired, as well by the proprietors as by the public, will nowbe pursued with alacrity and attention; whereby a seheme ofno common bulk and extent, will be happily completed.
The course and lockage before referred to being accordingto the present intent, we pass on to notice the particulars ofthe present Act.^
The canal is not to deviate from the line laid down in the“book of reference without consent of the land owners. Thewater of sundry brooks, &c. are forbidden to be taken for the* use of the canal. Side cuts may be made by the Rev. Mr.
a Walton,
