OBSERVATIONS
ON THE NEW BRIDGE.
A committee of the House of Commons of thissession, (182i,) recommends'that the present London bridge should be taken down* and that a new bridge,of five arches, should be erected in the site of it.It is estimated to cost 450,000/., including a tempo-rary bridge, which is estimated at 20,000/., but notincluding the compensations to parties injured, norany consequent works from the alterations in thelevels of the banks above London Bridge . The esti-mate is made from a comparison, magnitude formagnitude, with the cost of Waterloo bridge ; andthe sum of 50,000/. is added for contingencies. Itis stated, that about 70,000 tons of stone will berequired, and that the bridge is to be faced withAberdeen granite, or granite of an equally hard anddurable quality.
