To tale up a Mlilſtone with an Engine wrought by theSmoal a Lamp.

it raiſe a weight of 150 pounds; it is altogetherlike the precedent, but that it hath a pair of toothed wheelsbetween the Screw A, and the Pulleys, the firſt of them is im-mediately moved by the Screw, and the ſecond is moved bythe firſt, and about its Axis the Rope turns round; and thatthe Smoak of the Lamp may ſupply the force of the movingpower, the centre of the wheel B C is firmly put into the Ax-is D of the Screw, whoſe Teeth running in each other, areturn'd round by the Teeth of the Wheels C and B, fixt to theAxis of the wheel F G, parallel to the Horizon; this wheelis ſo made of a thin Iron plate tinned over, that the wholeplane of the Horizontal wheel conſiſting, of the thin plate, iscut through with Channellings, and way for the Smoak topaſs, in ſuch manner, that while the Smoak of the ſuppoſedLamp L, paſſes through by the oblique openings of the Plate,ir turns about the wheel hung to the Glaſſey cover H, uponthe point of a Needle, and ſo poiſed, that it may turn roundeaſily; and if one Lamp doth not ſuffce, 2 or 3, or more may beadded: Alſo there may be more wheels than the foreſaid two,and more little wheels of Pulleys. My Engine which performsthe foreſaid effect, conſiſts of eight Wheels and Pulleys alto--gether. ̃
