Problem XXV.

Zo cauſe any. ſtrong Blom or. ſtroſte uſually. ſtruct on great Belle,by 4 Hammer , and ly great Weights, to be effected 4much leſſer weight, aud fewer toothed Nbeels.

more parts, in the diviſion of which points makeſo many joints for certain equal arms and equiponderant ham-mers, or Iron balls, or Globes, to be fixed, yet ſo, that the motion ofany arm run not out beyond the quadrant of a circle, vix.DGH: To the Axis of this Wheel place a Pulley with a weightand one toothed wheel, which ſhall turn about a certain axiswich a ballance, to retard the motion of the whole Engin, andalſo the impetus cauſed by this ballance, Cc.

Rails or Bars then being advanced ſhutting up the motion ofthe Engin, after which ſome hammer, to wit, D G muſt beconveyed perpendicular to an Horizontal ſite, and a little be-yond the hammer falls down with a force, and deſcribesby its fall the arch G H, and on the brim of the objected Bellſtrikes à ſtroke, or blow, and becauſe it touches only theextream of the Bell, tis preſently withdrawn by the Enginfrom proceeding any further, other wiſe if the hammer ſhouldreſt a little while, it would hinder the ſound of the Bell, ſomeſteel plate ſhould be put between by the ſide, which ſhoulddraw the Hammer immediately from the bell, and not hinderit from tending downwards: And in this manner, much leſſerweight being diſpoſed, forces the Hammer and makes the ſtrołcesmore valid, becauſe the Engin is as it were Æquilibrated: Theſame may be performed by Iron Spheres, or Globles, fallingfrom on high on the bell, which Globe is again raiſed io theheight by a ſcrew with a ſmall power. Or ſo many Globesmay be placed in an upper place, as are required for all theſtriking of hours for the whole day, as alſo of each hour, Hinſt,ode of them is freed from the obſtacle that it may fall on theBell, afterwards two, and after that three, Cc. according asthe number of hours require: The hours may be adorn'!divers other new ways to ſhew the diſtance of hours, for frſt,
