abroad than in this country, for the reason that greys can be produced morecheaply by other means.

A fine argentine effedt may be produced by blocking in zinc powderthickened with albumen. The pieces are then dried, steamed, and worked ina very neutral solution of protochloride of tin. The tin is thus reduced tothe metallic state, and deposited in place of the zinc. The goods are thenwashed and well calendered to bring out the metallic lustre. The effeft may bevaried by substituting for the chloride of tin a very neutral solution of nitrateof copper, when that metal will be deposited instead of the zinc.

The three annexed specimens illustrate the pigment style in combinationwith other styles.

Ultramarine Blue, Chrome Black, and Dichromate of Lead.
