hold of the End 3, of the Leaver 00 whereby rne In-jecting-Cock remains shut, afcer the Pin in the BeamQj (in rissig) leaves the End 1, of that Leaver, bywhich it was betöre shut, as described under the Let-ter H, at the sameTime also the Steam havingfreeaccess frotn the Boiler into the Cylinder, by its forceagainst the bottom of the Piston countervails the Pres-sure of the Atmolphere, and permits it to rife with£,the inner End of the great Leaver, with also rises thehanging Beam Q, and by the Pin strst mentioned lhutsthe Regulator, when the Steam being confined andthe lnjecting-Cock shut, the Engine remains in thisPosture ontil the Steam becomes strong enoughby its Pressure on the Water in the Boiler to raise theBuoy in the Pipe H and a new stroke by condenfation18 begun; but if the Steam beslrong enough, as itmostufualiy happens, then, as foon as the Piston is cometo its proper height, a new Strocke is immediately be-gun, and the Engine almost in continual Motion, ma-kingtrom 12 to 16, and sometimes 20 Strockes, in aminute, whilst h 2 the outer End of the great Leaver,Works a Pump of 8,9 or 12 Inehes diameter, and giuesa Strock ot 7 foot or more in Length.
